District 9 and The Road

Hey All.

Finally got an hour or so to update the Movie Kit and add a couple of new reviews: District 9 and The Road. Both films quite dark and violent. Not because I don't like fun films, but sometimes, you can find some real insight-laden gems on the dark side. We just discussed The Road last night with a bunch of students. Good discussion, I think.  So, until next time.

Peace,

Ted

Gran Torino

Hey All,

I just added a capsule review for Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. In the near future, I'll have to add District 9 and a few other movies that I've missed.  Stay tuned.

Peace,

Ted

Note to Restistered Users . . .

Hey All,

I'm still trying to figure out this blog architecture and how best to maintain this site so that every other comment isn't an ad for Viagra. Earlier, I tried to make comments available only for authenticated users.  Turns out, bots can make users as well.  So I've sorted through my list of people who've registered, tried to weed out the bots (those who logged on once and then left) from real people.  I deleted all those who showed bot-like tendencies and unblocked the rest.  If I accidentally deleted your account, I'm sorry.  Feel free to re-register and leave comments.

New movie reviews - Piaf, Moon, Wild Things, An Education, and East of Eden

Hey All,

Sorry I've been away from the blog for so long. Been busy. So here are five more films worth talking about: La Vie en Rose (or The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf), Moon, Where the Wild Things Are, and East of Eden.

Let me know what you think.

Peace,

Ted

Best Movies of 2009 (that I've seen, anyway . . .)

Hi Everybody.

Merry Christmas and Happy Blog Year!

Going to see Avatar with my son this afternoon, to see what all the fuss is about.  So maybe it'll be a blue Christmas (but not in the way Elvis means . .

If you want to leave a comment, please register!

The site was getting spammed to death, so I've shut off anonymous users.  If you'd like to post a comment, you can register (very easy, no commitment required), and then you can leave as many as you'd like.  As long as it's not pr0n spam, or an ad for internet drugs or car insurance.  Anything else is fair game.

To register, just enter our url and add "/user".  So it would look like this: www.turnau.cz/user.  Then just click on "create account" and fill in the blanks.  Easy.  And it'll take care of them dang robots!

Take care, all.

"Frost/Nixon" and "Vicky Christina Barcelona"

Hey All,

Just wanted to let you know that there are two more entries to the Movie Night Kit. We just did Vicky Christina Barcelona last night, so it's pretty fresh in my mind, and I had plenty to say.  We had a great discussion, although I left some things unsaid (as I wrote in the Kit).

Rules for Commenting -- Kill the Robots!

Hey All,

Just wanted to let you know that since I reconfig'd the blog so that people could leave comments, the only ones who have taken advantage of that have been internet bots.  Therefore, if I see any posts that are titled in gibberish or by anonymous users, I'll delete 'em.  Just to let you know.  If there are real humans out there who want to comment, you are still welcome to do so.  Just so you really are human.

You can now add comments . . . I think

I just figured out how to change the permissions so that you can add comments without having to log on (which I'm not sure how anyone but me can, anyhow).  So feel free to leave a comment or two.

Peace,

Ted
